Teame Zazzu Aquanauts completed Search and Recovery SCUBA dive training as part of a inter-agency training exercise

TZA SAR personnel conducted several underwater search and recovery dives executing both shore based pendulum and submerged pivot pointed based circle search patterns. Recovery divers attempted to locate a discarded firearm as part of the training scenario. TZA also utilized the Underwater Sensor Platform to enable line control, sensor mounting and pivot control.

Divers successfuly executed the search patterns and located the glock handgun during each of their searches. Utilizing rope communication and control as well as practicing line control and pattern execution enabled divers to practice search and recovery manuvers in a low-visibility cold water environment at a depth of approx. 35 feet. 9-9 LIVEDIVE: locating and entering the compartment of a sunken Cessna 310 airplane in approx. 45ft of water and securing a geocache hidden inside the cockpit

The Live Dive was a two day, four dive training exercise focused on building team cohesion, compass navigation, autonomic containment and dive emergency response development among aquanauts. TZ Aquanatics members located the plane wreck, secured the materials inside the geocache and deployed an Experimental Sample Tray (EST).

SALVAGE SUBMERSION: TZ Aquanatics were required to locate and enter a submerged twin-engine 10-seat Beech C185 at a depth of 55 feet, deploy an experimental sensor tray, and conduct simulated emergency search and rescue dives acting as an air-deployed "feet wet" rapid reaction force under live-fire conditions.

The Aquatics phase of Jump and Thump took place over the course of two days. Subsequent dives required participants to locate a sunken rowboat at 80 feet and prepare entry into an underwater vent pipe leading to a cave with extreme restrictions at 140 feet, all part of a vast underground system of water connecting seven sister lakes nestled among the surrounding red mesas.
