TZ Mountain Division partners with TZ Research & Development to test equipment and tactics for search and rescue deployments and other critical engagement drills

Operating as a detached maneuvering element, TZ Mountain Division conducted live fire exercises in conjunction with overhead UAV support. Overhead units help in several important ways.

Small element areal support overhead includes observation and kinetic action purposes. Unit support happens for maintenance and ongoing operational basis, including training duties. TZR&D elements coordinated aerial coverage with small unit tactics. The UAV operated in a force protection role. Teame Zazzu continues to improve ISR and situational awareness capabilities during deployment using UAVs and other robotic assets.

During Operation Overlook Spark, a simulated engagement utilizing reactive explosive targets recreated key factors of a kinetic engagement while on a typical patrol maneuver. Forward elements took a key lead in planning. TZR&D science support staff manned all electronics functions. Utilizing a minimal detachment helped measure UAV coverage utility in various scenarios including FPV system failure, Line of Sight Maneuvering, and high winds within rapid deployment time windows. The environment allowed commanders realistic efficacy and accurate situation reporting using likely assets. TZ conducts ongoing utility studies of UAV engagements. Overlook spark employed a man-portable short-range low altitude ultra light quadcopter equipped with sensors, suitable for short-range, high-risk mission profiles. TIMP TOP: Mountain Division hikers conduct a bi-annual climb to to the 11752-foot summit of Mt Timpanogas

A shack in the center of the summit ridge marks the objective, and features a view of of the entire valley below. Mountain Division members descend back along the rugged peak trail, or slide 1300 feet down the glacier to Emerald lake.

OPERATION FLANK STAKES: This live-fire exercise will simulate a rapidly deployed search and recovery mission in hostile territory by a squad-sized TZMD force utilizing areal and ground KAZI and ROV drone assets in a screen recon and force protection role.

Operation Flank Stakes aims to safely train and reinforce learned tactics, test equipment and procedures, gain teamwork experience, and produce public outreach materials while conducting a simulated search and recovery mission to return a missing flight recorder from the encampment where it is held, while practicing leave-no-trace land management techniques. A patrol critique and after-action review will be presented to capture learning gained during the operation.

OPERATION GUNLOCK TREND: Multi-terrain training for Mountain Division members and K-9 pack members on water, land, and rock

Operation Gunlock Trend capped off a week of exercises in honor of Sector 7 Leader Colin Weiss. TZ achieved several benchmarks in coordinated maneuvers with K-9 units, including a mile run-swim and water introductory course.
